The Books of Night

This is a set of two books, collectively titled The Books of Night. They are illuminated manuscripts originally produced in 812 A.D. at a French monastery but this version was reprinted during the 1600’s by an English publisher who produced some 200 copies; most of them were burned as heretical and demonic, and only a handful are believed to have survived – including this set. The two volumes are over 3,000 pages long and seem to be the accounts of an Egyptian sorcerer who wrote down his travels into the Nightlands sometime around 40 B.C. This account has a lot of important information about the dangers of the Nightlands, and a detailed description of the Nightland’s counterparts to Rome and Alexandria. Through context as the book it read it can be determined that sections of this sorcerer’s tale appear to be missing, but the content of those missing sections is unknown.
